Scott Beyer
I am a journalist who focuses on urban American issues. I write columns for Forbes, Governing Magazine, and MarketUrbanism.com, and also do regular radio appearances. Originally from Charlottesville, VA, I studied at nearby Bridgewater College, but my work is mainly inspired by the last few years that I spent traveling to study major U.S. cities.
This spring, I began another 3-year trip, during which I'll live in 26 cities for a month each to write a book on my findings. The name of the book will be: The Sparks From Within—How Market Urbanism Can Revive U.S. Cities. It will argue that these cities, many of which struggle with dysfunctional economies and social fabrics, would benefit from market-based policies that improve economic growth and quality-of-life.
Along with my Forbes, Governing, and MarketUrbanism.com columns, my work has also appeared in The Wall Street Journal, American Interest, Atlantic, National Review, Pacific Standard, Weekly Standard, American Spectator, City Journal, American Magazine, Reason Magazine, The Daily Beast, Next City, New Geography, and the Cato Institute.
