Market Urbanism

Liberalizing cities | From the bottom up

“Market Urbanism” refers to the synthesis of classical liberal economics and ethics (market), with an appreciation of the urban way of life and its benefits to society (urbanism). We advocate for the emergence of bottom up solutions to urban issues, as opposed to ones imposed from the top down.

“In the movies, there is no minimum lot size or maximum lot occupancy; we fill provide as much or as little parking as we want.”

— Matthew Yglesias (@mattyglesias) February 27, 2017

“Fences is a powerful reminder that single-family zoning is not enough to make the American dream a reality.”

Fences is set in Pittsburgh’s Hill District, hardly an example of a community zoned for single family housing. Although, Wilson’s plays deal with the death and transformation of this neighborhood.
